Holiday Stress Busters!

Holiday Preparations

The holidays, while wonderful and fun, can also be a stressful time of year.  With holiday parties at work, finding the perfect present for your significant other, and visiting vast numbers of family members, you can’t help but feel a little overwhelmed.  So, you need to be prepared to battle some stress during this busy season.

I personally have 2 solid weekends of travel to my parents and to my wife’s family which will take to us both sides of New York (I think they couldn’t possible live further apart and still be in the same state!).  Travel is always stressful for us – driving long distances, staying in strange beds, and making nice with relatives we only see once a year.  To beat the stress, I need to plan ahead and so do you!

What does one do when it gets to be too much? 

1)       Plan ahead

  1. Combat stress by planning relaxing things to do – reading (pick something light), watching a movie, putting together a puzzle, or making hot chocolate.

2)      Enlist Your Significant Other

  1. Team up and take care of each other.  Plan a spa day together to get a couple’s massage or simply go out to dinner just the two of you.

3)     Just say “no”

  1. The stress to “do” everything can cause you to feel scattered and drained.  If you can’t do one more holiday party just say “no,” people will understand.

The holidays have just begun and I’m already saying “no” and planning a spa day but I’m an introvert and I know my limits.  Please comment below with your own ideas on how to beat holiday stress.  I would love to hear what you do!
